“Endless Tree” is an installation work constructed as if building a house, starting from the ceiling. The construction method—a collection of structures seemingly floating in suspension—has appeared consistently in Sungim Choi’s work under the title “Endless Tree” from 2015 to the present. Trees represent the processes of life, growth, death, and regeneration. In autumn, leaves fall; in winter, branches wither and die; but in spring, new leaves sprout again, symbolizing change and development. The artist sought to project these qualities of the tree onto “Endless Tree.” Apparent contradictions characterize the space it forms: it seems orderly yet chaotic, alive yet dead, falling yet growing, enclosed yet exposed, disappearing yet simultaneously being created. These qualities define the common essence of “The Endless Tree.” The numerous spheres within the network resemble living beings continuing their existence within their own “homes,” seemingly exuding a sense of vitality.
